On April 3, 2019, at 15:30 p.m., instructed by the National Forestry and Grassland Administration and organized by the Chinese Association of Zoological Gardens, the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding held the Chengdu Giant Pandas Xing Er and Mao Er Handover Ceremony to Denmark with support from the Embassy of the Kingdom of Denmark to China, Copenhagen Zoo, Press Office of Sichuan Provincial People’s Government, Sichuan Forestry and Grassland Administration, Press Office of Chengdu Municipal People’s Government, and Chengdu Garden City Construction Administration. The two giant pandas would be sent to Denmark from Chengdu on April 4 at 7:30. They will stay at the Copenhagen Zoo.
The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding has conducted scientific cooperation and communication on giant pandas with 16 unique countries and regions, and is now cooperating with zoos from the US, Japan, Canada, and three other countries. It claims the record for the organization maintaining the best giant panda survival rate of the giant pandas. Through these activities, Chengdu’s giant panda culture is spread all over the world, with a greatly improved reputation. The giant pandas left for Denmark, a kingdom of fairy tales and was put under the spotlight of the globe. The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding seized its chance, and is further promoting Chengdu’s giant panda culture brand, which is the active response to the main theme of the speech of the Secretary of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee Peng Qinghua on leading the new development of Sichuan cultural tourism with the Sanxingdui Museum, Jiuzhai Valley and Giant Pandas.
At the ceremony’s conclusion, in the presence of leaders at all levels and guests, Mrs. Marie L. F. D. Neergaard, Minister Counsellor of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Denmark to China, handed over Xing Er and Mao Er’s visas to Zhang Zhihe, the Secretary and Director of Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. The hand-over ceremony has concluded. The major leaders present pulled the actuating lever together, starting the journey to Denmark the two giant pandas are about to embark on. The handover ceremony ended with great success.
