Giant Pandas Jin Xi and Zhu Yu Departed for Spain
2024-05-01 11:44

At 11:25 a.m. on April 29 (Beijing Time), giant pandas Jin Xi and Zhu Yu took off from Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport to Spain on a charter flight.

To ensure the health and safety of giant pandas during transportation, our Base has made full preparations, like customized special transportation cages and a sufficient amount of fresh and high-quality bamboo and bamboo shoots; accompanying keepers and veterinary experts will also monitor the giant pandas’ indicators on a regular basis during the flight. After arriving at Madrid Zoo, the Chinese experts will stay for about three months to accompany the giant pandas through the isolation and quarantine period and complete the stress adaptation and behavioral training, so as to help them quickly adapt to the new living environment. At the same time, they will also provide technical guidance and professional training for their counterparts of the Madrid Zoo.

In order to further promote international cooperation on giant panda conservation and the conservation of endangered species and biodiversity between China and Spain, the two sides signed a cooperation agreement in 2007. Over the past 17 years, a total of six giant pandas have been bred and survived, making Spain one of the most fruitful countries in the European region in terms of international cooperation on giant pandas.
